Today is the SIXTH birthday of my beautiful, bright and talented niece, Paige “PJ”…so in honor of her birthday (and since she’s not having a party this year because she’s going on a cruise to the BAHAMAS with Mommy, Daddy and her grandparents), I thought it would be fun to post her Fabulous Fifties Sock Hop party from last year.
Even though the party was held at our house (our sparsely furnished living room makes for a perfect dance hall), this entire party was planned by my sister, Julie, and her husband, Mark…with some help from our party “Dream Team” of family and friends. I did the printed items (invitations, food signs, etc.)…but everything else was all Julie, so I’m basically reposting from her blog…
From Julie: “The theme that PJ wanted this year was a 50’s sock hop (or according to Paige “a poodle skirt dance party”)….which I loved! We had a hula hooping contest, bubble gum blowing contest (for the adults), hot potato (with a record), a ginormous piñata, root beer floats, etc. Although it was chaotic (and trying to take pics at the same time didn’t help – haha)….it was a lot of fun :)”
INVITATIONS: Mark (PJ’s dad, my brother-in-law) and I designed an invite to look like a real record complete with album cover art, pocket and clear sleeve. Julie took some adorable photos of PJ in her poodle skirt outfit by Annie’s Poodle Skirts, and I printed card stock double-sided using an image of a vinyl record, party information on the label, and an Envelopments 7″ pocket sleeve for the album cover. Guests thought it was a real record!
THE CAKE AND FAVORS:
The ADORABLE cake by Jeff Arcio of Rhino Cake Co….“As always, my wonderful ‘brother from another mother’, Jeff of Rhino Cake Co., did an AMAZING job. Not only was it perfect, but I had at least 3 pieces (oink oink) because I wanted to try every flavor…and it was SO damn good that I couldn’t stop!”
Regarding the cake topper, Julie said, “A wonderful Etsy seller (Dainty Pastimes) custom made it for me. I just sent her a pic of PJ and a pic of her outfit…and she knocked it out of the park! It now sits on the shelf above my desk. I love it!”
Three delicious flavors!
Each guest received a custom CD of PJ’s favorite 50’s songs and a custom made cookie…
The CD favors matched the invitations, just a smaller 5″ size.
Regarding the custom cookies, Julie said, “My friend Melissa is starting up a side biz for these and I think she’d better get ready for the emails now! 😉 She did an awesome job on them!”
