Show Me The LOVE…CONTEST

Show Me The LOVE…CONTEST

I absolutely LOVE what I do…I can’t believe I’ve been in the business of working with PAPER and PAINT for over 10 years now!  It’s so amazing to be able to do something creative and unique each day…and to earn a living doing it!  I’m probably not going to become a millionaire doing this and I’m certainly not changing the world (I mean, it’s just paper and paint), but the work that I do is so rewarding…it feeds my soul to know that in some small way the things I’m able to do are enjoyed by others.   My heart just melts when a client tells me that their baby can’t stop staring and smiling at the animals I painted in the nursery…and then later they call to tell me that the now toddler points and names the animals and says “goodnight” to each one at bedtime.  How cute is that?!!  Or when a newlywed couple thanks me by telling me that my designs “made” their whole wedding and that their guests really noticed all the details.  I get so giddy when brides tell me that their guests called and emailed to tell them that their invitations were the most amazing ones they’ve ever received…and that they can’t wait to attend the wedding.  And when they say “We hope the party can live up to the invitations,” that’s when I know I’ve done good. My business is 100% referral driven and I’ve been very fortunate that clients recognize my commitment, passion and professionalism by telling their friends about me.  Most of my clients are repeat clients and have also become my good friends.  Even though I don’t advertise, I’m still insanely busy and I know that’s because I have such a great network of family, friends, clients and industry professionals who like my work and tell everyone about me.   As a small way of giving back or saying “thanks,” I donate my design/painting services to local charities and fundraisers every year; I offer free advice, design ideas, paint tips/techniques all the time to my friends and neighbors; and I’m always mindful of finding the best ways to be cost-efficient/budget-conscious while still delivering an amazing product for my clients.    BUT I’ve never had a CONTEST.  I thought it’s about time to say “thank you” for just loving EITAK!  Who doesn’t like to get compliments and positive feedback on the work they do?  Who doesn’t like to feel loved and admired…and dare I say, popular?  🙂   And if you love paper and paint as much as I do, then give me a “shout out.” I just got back into blogging…and just to see if anyone’s actually reading my ramblings (haha, if you’ve made it this far you’re almost there…keep going), I thought I’d run the contest through my blog.   So here’s how the contest works:  1) Make a (nice) comment on this blog post (better yet, subscribe to my blog feed too).  Don’t worry if your comment doesn’t post right away, I have it set to “moderate comments” so I don’t get a bunch of spam.   2) Become a fan on facebook.  If you’re already a fan, then suggest me to all your friends on facebook if you think they’d be interested in winning….and if they love paper, paint and being creative! 3) DO BOTH: comment/subscribe to this blog AND become a fan!  This doubles your chance of winning.  One winner (chosen at random) will be picked from the blog comments and one from the fan page.   Pretty cool, huh?  So get busy!!! What do you WIN?  This...

Fun Stuff Coming Soon To This Blog…

Fun Stuff Coming Soon To This Blog…

It came to me as I was pondering whether I would be able to keep up with this whole blogging thing (seriously, I don’t know how some of you do it…I find it kinda time-consuming…especially when I have to find pictures and try to edit down these wordy “novels” of mine)…BUT maybe I DO have some things to blog about that you all might find interesting!   So here’s what I came up with… 1]  AWESOME BIRTHDAY PARTIES BLOG SERIES: my sisters and I are known for putting together some pretty cool parties for our kids.  Our nephew, Tyan, is 13 and our niece, Maylie, is 10….so you can believe we’ve done almost every theme imaginable!  Together, (my sisters) Mary & Julie and I brainstorm every aspect of each theme, do just about everything ourselves, and don’t spend gobs of money to throw a great party.  People are always telling us we need to start our own kids’ party planning business!  And everyone loves to borrow our ideas…so this blog series will basically highlight a different party or theme to inspire your next shin-dig!  Believe me, we have ideas for days and don’t mind sharing.  We have the DREAM TEAM:  of course, OVER-THE-TOP and ONE-OF-A-KIND invitations by EITAK, INSANELY AMAZING and DELICIOUS cakes by our dear friend Jeff of Rhino Cake Company (who also caters most of the food), GORGEOUS photography that captures all the memories of the occasion…by my sis Julie of Lot116 Photography.   I also have a bunch of our friends and family that are always there to help with decorating, cool ideas, entertaining the kids, running the games, cleaning up…which I’ll mention in the blog series.  So stay tuned for the awesomeness. 2]  ONE PROJECT A WEEKEND BLOG SERIES: a comment I constantly get is “Wow, with all the painting you can do, your house must look amazing.”  Yeah, I wish.  My answer is usually, “I’m like the mechanic with the broken down car, the chef that orders take-out, the plumber with the leaky faucet.”  I’m so busy working, working, working on client’s projects….that I really don’t have time to work on my own house.  🙁  Up until recently, I actually still had white walls in one room…GASP!  So hopefully this blog series will change that and you can see whether I stuck to my New Year’s Resolution and tried to focus some time and talent into FINALLY finishing up my own projects….some of these are 8 or 9 years in the making!  Check back often and cheer me on! 3] THE FIRST-EVER EITAK DESIGN CONTEST!:  need I say more?!!!  One lucky EITAK Design facebook fan or blog follower will win a pretty cool prize from EITAK….we’re talking something CUSTOM!  So keep an eye out for the contest details (it will be a blog post)….and tell your friends to enter if they love PAPER and...

Gimme More Chartreuse!

Gimme More Chartreuse!

I forgot how much I actually do like Cost Plus. Nine years ago, when my husband and I first moved into our house, it was our “go-to” place to find nice, but inexpensive furniture that had a little bit of the eclectic and ethnic style of decor we like. We already had a lot of Asian artwork and antiques (from a trip to Taiwan), as well as things my parents had given me. We fell in love with anything Italian during our honeymoon in Italy. And we found ourselves drawn to pieces, patterns, colors from various cultural/historical influences: Asian/Indian, European (Italian and Spanish), Gothic/Medieval, Moorish, Moroccan, and anything rustic-tropical-ornate. I guess it could be called a “Euro-Colonial” style…think French Colonial/Indochinese, British Colonial/India to West Indies, Italian/Venetian, Moorish/Moroccan. In any case, Cost Plus seemed to fit the bill. And then the benefit of being a decorative painter who has the opportunity to work with some fabulous interior designers started to come into play. We began buying pieces through my connections (those trade discounts are always a plus), and my friend Tiffany (Heon Design) found beautiful fabrics and helped me with draperies and bedding. I guess the last time I went to a Cost Plus was to find some stocking stuffers and snacks for my boys. Until today. I was looking for some items for a wedding I’m doing this weekend, and happened to pop in to check out their frame selection. My eye was instantly drawn to a lovely and bright chartreuse/mossy green, floral patterned placemat (pictured above). I know, it’s just a $3.99 placemat, but this pattern made me happy and I had to have it. Anyone who knows me knows that I love Chartreuse. Lately, I can’t get enough of it. Some people love it, some people compare it to pea soup or baby poop. But I beg to differ. I just love, love, love it! I think it’s such a clean, fresh, uplifting color. It goes well with so many colors: red, orange, aqua, grey, brown, black, purple, pink, yellow. And it’s not just a modern/contemporary color….Chartreuse adds that bit of “pop” and a refreshing update to anything vintage or traditional. All because of the Chartreuse feather comb from Anthropologie I found to wear in my hair for our photos (which were beyond fantastical because of my talented sis, Julie of Lot116 Photography). I loved this color scheme so much, I had to paint my boys’ bathroom Chartreuse and dark Grey (which I’ll post later in an upcoming blog series, so stay tuned). And I’m using some beautiful Chartreuse paper patterns for invitations and wedding color schemes. Best $3.99 I’ve spent in a while….I may have to find a way to use this pattern on an invite or a wall...

Check Out What’s “Hatching”…

Spring is in the air and there’s beautiful color everywhere! From the gorgeous tulips blooming in my neighbor’s courtyard, to the meadow grasses popping up everywhere to cover brown dirt with a sea of bright green…nature’s palette is in full effect! I love it! Besides the fact that I’ve been sneezing up a storm, springtime in Southern California is one of my favorite times of year! Spring is also my busiest time of year. Not only is it Wedding Season, but it’s time for Spring Cleaning – which means that cleaning up the house also inspires home improvement projects, remodeling and decorating. And that means new painting projects, murals, faux finishes and touch ups for EITAK! In the last couple of weeks, it’s been all of the above! I’ve been working on a bunch of cool projects in some amazing homes. But I’ll save that for another post. Like I always say, busy is good! So, back to COLOR…..yesterday I received the sample pack for the new Envelopments line of papers, patterns and products. All I can say is “WOW!” I’m so excited to start designing invitations, announcements and social communiques with these new colors and patterns! Did I mention that I LOVE PAPER?!!! Here’s a sneak peek: I’ll post more detailed shots of the new collection (especially my favorites) or include a link to Envelopments’ swatch pages soon. Here’s what’s coming….“113 new stocks, for a total of 247 colors. The new collection includes 13 new matte stocks, 16 metallic stocks, 6 textured metallic stocks, 4 new duplex stocks, and introducing 9 new letterpress stocks. In addition to all that and our current colors, we’re adding 65 new patterned stocks from 5 new Envelopments Original Patterns: Bloom, Brocade, Swiss, Sutra, and Mod. You’re going to love them all!” I’m in love already! I’m also really excited about a new pocket format and these FAVOR BOXES! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them all. I’m already thinking up ways to use the boxes for more than just favors! I can’t wait. Check back soon to see what’s “crackin'” at EITAK Design. Happy...
